LET ME BE YOU – THE POWER OF ROLE PLAY IN CONVERSATION COACHING

Although it’s hardly ever used, role play is a useful coaching tool for improving your conversations.

In this episode of Conversations about Conversations, my friend and colleague Michael Van Sant and I discuss the power of role play in conversation coaching. The specific conversation we role played was talking with a fearful client—something we have been doing a lot of recently.

-How do you manage a conversation with someone who is afraid?

-How do you help someone who’s emotional make good long-term decisions?

-What is your go-to strategy when clients are emotional?

The bottom line is most conversational management concepts, techniques and strategies are best taught through role play. As Dale Carnegie said, “Learning is an active process. We learn by doing. Only knowledge that is used sticks in your mind.”
